Dubai Tourism had a Study Mission group for their suppliers in the Asian market - China, South of Asia & India. They invited buyers from MICE and corporate companies for a familiarization trip in Dubai.

The Dubai Tourism Go Team Study Mission was an educational rally where teams learnt about the history of Dubai. Delegates went on a trip through the historical old Dubai and waterways while they unravelled through a series of tasks how Dubai was discovered. They learnt about Arabic traditional customs teaching them how the local Emirati people lived decades before they struck oil!

Exploring Dubai Old & New

Each team was provided with a Samsung galaxy tablet which was installed with the Go Team app . Using the Go Team app's GPS navigation and a series of clues and navigation notes, clients were guided around 14 checkpoints starting at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding where they were briefed.

Fun tasks and challenges

There first task was exploring through the oldest area of Dubai in the iconic Bastakiya area that was built in the 1890s. All teams had to take a traditional Arabic carpet lesson in how to make a carpet from scrap before heading into the Dubai Museum - Al Fahidi fort which is the oldest existing building in Dubai which was built in 1787.

After their history lesson they were off into the Bur Dubai Souk for a local dress-up challenge and photo challenges of local nearby mosques. They then had to cross the creek to other side of town on a traditional abra; money talks on that side of the water they had to barter their way down to the best prices in the Dubai gold and spice souks leaving them with gifts and souvenirs that will last a lifetime!

Teams participated in specific activities such as photo challenges, shopping tasks, and trivia questions.

Outcomes

The Go Team activity was a fabulous success. Participants reflected and challenged each other on their new found knowledge over dinner that evening.
